Through various initiatives, XL Axiata aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Starting 2019, XL Axiata has been actively calculating carbon emissions, covering direct operational activities including electricity consumption. As a developing country, Indonesia is faced with the challenge of finding a balance between economic growth and environmental preservation.

Jakarta, 13 November 2023. PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) is now a member of Kadin Net Zero Hub. The purpose of this collaboration is as a forum for XL Axiata to exchange knowledge and information, broaden its horizons, and also share resources in order to realise a low emission ecosystem in Indonesia. XL Axiata's participation in this community is in line with its goal to become a telecommunications company in Indonesia that pays attention to the principles of sustainability in business.

Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of XL Axiata, Marwan O. Baasir together with Deputy Chairperson for Maritime, Investment and Foreign Affairs of Kadin Indonesia, Shinta W. Kamdani, and Head of Kadin Net Zero Hub, Dharsono Hartono signed a memorandum of cooperation between the two parties in Jakarta, Wednesday (8/11).

Kadin Net Zero Hub is an initiative of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) to support national companies to transition to Net Zero. Motivated by the impacts of climate change and to support the government's target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving Net Zero Emission by 2060, Kadin Net Zero Hub builds a sustainable business ecosystem by helping the Indonesian private sector realise net zero commitments and increase competitiveness in the global market.

Marwan O. Baasir said, "XL Axiata is strongly committed to reducing our carbon footprint in all business operations. Through various initiatives, we are determined to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Starting in 2019, XL Axiata is actively calculating its Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions. As a developing country, Indonesia is faced with the challenge of finding a balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability. All parties, including XL Axiata, have an important role to play in contributing to this, especially by conducting low-carbon operations."

Marwan added, in daily operations, XL Axiata has also implemented a number of initiatives. These include adopting technologies such as AI Power Intelligent and AI Power Management, Analytics Network Equipment Shutdown and the application of the outdoor concept in device placement, which aims to improve business efficiency and environmental sustainability. In addition, XL Axiata also involves suppliers and partners where around 75% of top spenders have also supported the net zero emission target.

Meanwhile, Shinta W. Kamdani said, "Congratulations to XL Axiata as a new member in Kadin Net Zero Hub family. Hopefully with the addition of members, Kadin Net Zero Hub can be more solid and in encouraging networking and collaboration between members and other supporting partners. Of course, we can continue to foster a shared commitment in achieving net zero."

Shinta added that the net zero program is one of the joint commitments that must be continuously raised and every layer of business actors must be able to contribute to it. For the record, Indonesia has increased its commitment to reduce emissions in the form of a Nationally Determined Contribution, from 29% to 31.89% in 2030 on its own efforts or equivalent to a reduction in carbon emissions by 912 million tonnes of CO2.
