Floods in East Kutai XL Axiata Employees Distribute Emergency Assistance in Sangatta

Sangatta, 24 March 2022.  Employees of PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata), through Majlis Taklim XL Axiata (MTXL Axiata), distributed emergency assitance for flood victims in Sangatta, East Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan Province. The handover to the victims at a number of flood locations on APT Pranoto Road, Singa Karti Village, North Sangatta District, was carried out directly by representatives of XL Axiata East Kalimantan on Wednesday (23/3). 

 

Chairman of MTXL Axiata, Yanuar Tirta Kumaya said, “This assistance is a part of MTXL Axiata Disaster Response Program which aims to help Indonesian people who need assistance. This assistance is also a manifestation of the concern of XL Axiata employees to ease the burden on the Sangatta community who are facing a disaster. We are sorry for the tragedy that occurred and express our deep sympathy for the victims and may they always be given strength and fortitude in facing this ordeal.”

 

The emergency assistance from XL Axiata employees is in the form of packages of basic daily needs in the form of rice, bread, instant noodles, sugar, tea, milk, bath soap and medicines. The procurement for this assistance was collected from donations from XL Axiata employees managed by MTXL Axiata.

 

All funds collected through the MTXL Axiata Disaster Response Program were channelled directly by holding various social actions for the Indonesian people in various regions. Apart from being distributed in the form of emergency assistance to disaster-affected areas, funds from employees are also channelled in various social activities, such as the construction and renovation of village bridges, construction of mosques, power plants, house renovations up to refill water depots.

 

Floods in Sangatta occurred from 19 March 2022 until today. Data from the East Kutai Regency Government stated that at least 3,900 families or around 16,800 people are affected by this flood. In addition, it is recorded that at least more than 2,400 houses are flooded and as many as 1,200 residents are forced to take refuge in the Sangatta Great Mosque. 

 

 

XL Axiata network is guaranteed to be safe

 

Regarding XL Axiata services during the Sangatta flood, in overall XL Axiata network throughout the East Kutai Regency is in a safe condition. Although there are several BTSs that are affected by the flood, services to subscribers continued to run normally due to network strengthening and engineering around the disaster site. Throughout the regency, service to subscribers is supported by more than 180 BTSs.

 

XL Axiata continues to monitor and ensure that currently services remain normal in most flood-affected areas. The XL Axiata team strives to maintain the quality of telecommunication and data networks in disaster-affected areas, both by ensuring the operation of infrastructure and by network engineering. Anticipatory steps have been carried out by the XL Axiata technical team to deal with various possible natural disasters in a number of disaster-prone areas throughout the province since the start of increasing rainfall. This needs to be done to ensure the condition of the network infrastructure, as well as to distribute aid to communities affected by disasters.
