Share

MEDAN, MAY 27, 2025 – PT XLSMART Telecom Sejahtera Tbk (XLSMART) through its employees organised a usual quarterly blood donation drive aimed at helping children with cancer in Medan. In addition to blood donation, the event included an educational session on the “Love, Proud, Understand Rupiah” campaign delivered by representatives from Bank Indonesia. In partnership with Columbia Asia Hospital Medan, free screenings for blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, and uric acid levels were provided. The event took place at the Grha XLSMART Medan office, located at Jalan Diponegoro No. 5, Medan, on Tuesday (27/5).

This event was a collaboration between XLSMART employees, PFI Medan, Bank Indonesia, and Columbia Asia Hospital Medan. The donated blood will be supplied to the Medan Children's Oncology Foundation (YOAM) and distributed to children with cancer. Desy Sari Dewi (Group Head of XLSMART West Region), Horas Lubis (Head of Sales XLSMART W-Northern 1-3), Atika Rahmi (Chairperson of YOAM), Riski Cahyadi (Chairperson of PFI Medan), Dr. Yoseph (Representative of Columbia Asia Hospital Medan), and Reza Febrian (Representative of Bank Indonesia's North Sumatra Provincial Office) were among those in attendance.

Desy Sari Dewi, Group Head of XL Axiata West Region, stated  "XLSMART employees, along with the journalist community in Medan, hold quarterly blood donation activities to help children with cancer. This project reflects XLSMART's dedication to assisting children with cancer who are in need of blood. It is part of our corporate social responsibility programme, which emphasises health and community well-being. The event aims to raise public awareness about the value of blood donation in saving lives and enhancing donor health, as well as to collect blood itself. This time around, we collaborated with Bank Indonesia and Columbia Asia Hospital Medan. We believe that the initiative will lead to healthier employees, journalists, and community members. The blood collected will directly benefit children in need.”

Desy added that 70 blood bags were successfully collected from donors among the 73 registrations. These will be provided directly to YOAM and distributed to children with cancer in urgent need of blood transfusions.

Participants in this initiative included employees of XLSMART, Bank Indonesia, Indonesian Photojournalist Association (PFI) Medan, Medan Children's Oncology Foundation (YOAM), H. Adam Malik General Hospital Medan, Columbia Asia Hospital Medan, LAZISMU (Muhammadiyah Alms and Charity Agency), XLSMART customers, and members of the public.

The blood donation initiative at XLSMART has been a meaningful tradition since 2012, held every three months in a spirit of togetherness. To date, over 3,511 blood bags have been collected nationwide, with over 2,770 bags collected in Sumatra alone and distributed to children with cancer and those in need. Active donors look forward to this event since it provides numerous health benefits, including lower risk of heart disease and cancer, weight control, and early diagnosis of major illnesses. Furthermore, blood donation has significant psychological consequences, making each donation not only a noble act but also a step towards better health.

The event also included an educational session titled "Love, Be Proud of, and Understand the Rupiah," which was led by a Bank Indonesia representative. This session aims to instill a love of the rupiah and promote awareness about counterfeit currency. To love the rupiah, we must first recognise it, which includes comprehending its security measures such as ribbons and watermarks. These traits can be detected in three dimensions: seen, touched, and viewed against light (Dilihat, Diraba, Diterawang). The public was also reminded of the "Five Don'ts" when handling rupiah banknotes: do not scrawl, staple, crumple, wet, or fold them.

Through this event, XLSMART employees wished to show that every drop of blood counts and can provide new hope to children struggling with cancer. The next XLSMART blood drive will be held in August 2025 as part of their ongoing quarterly commitment to promote physical health and provide essential help for children in need.
