Despite the pandemic, XL Axiata continues to build networks throughout Bali, both for improving the quality of data and voice services in urban areas, as well as expanding to areas previously unreachable. A total of 716 villages in 57 sub-districts and 9 regencies/cities have now been served by XL Axiata's 4G service. In addition, XL Axiata has also begun to introduce 5G networks to the people of Bali.

Denpasar, 13 October 2021. PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) ensures that the network in Bali is in top condition and ready to welcome the reopening of Bali tourism after almost two years of being affected by the pandemic. Until now, XL Axiata's 4G network in the Bali area continues to increase. Despite the pandemic, XL Axiata continues to build networks throughout Bali, both for improving the quality of data and voice services in urban areas, as well as expanding to previously unreachable areas. A total of 716 villages in 57 sub-districts and 9 regencies/cities in Bali have now been served by XL Axiata's 4G service. In addition, we are also starting to introduce the 5G network to the people of Bali.

 

Director of Technology & Chief Technology Officer of XL Axiata, I Gede Darmayusa said, "Just as the whole community and Bali tourism industry players feel, we at XL Axiata are also very enthusiastic about the plan to reopen tourism. For this reason, we have prepared the XL Axiata network to welcome all the needs to support the return of tourists, both domestic and foreign. Now, throughout Bali, we operate more than 6,600 BTS, of which 2,400 are 4G BTS. The number of 4G BTS will continue to increase considering that at this time we are also still expanding in all districts in Bali.”

 

The existence of 4G network in all villages in Bali is also an implementation of XL Axiata's commitment to contribute to increasing digital literacy for people who live in remote rural areas. According to I Gede Darmayusa, the availability of a quality internet network and the increasing digital literacy will boost productivity and help people adapt to various digital economic means.

 

I Gede Darmayusa added, in addition to the expansion and addition of BTS, XL Axiata also continues to increase its 4G network capacity both in terms of radio and transmission, as well as through fiberization. Now most of the BTS in Bali are fiberized and the number will continue to increase. Meanwhile, from the beginning of 2021 until now around 497 BTS have been increased in capacity. As a tourist destination in the super-priority category according to the government's determination, XL Axiata will also prioritize Bali for infrastructure improvement. Moreover, Bali will also be the location for the upcoming G20 Summit in 2022, so it is certain that the best network support is needed.

 

During the past year, in the shadow of the pandemic, XL Axiata data traffic in Bali continued to increase by around 16%, with the highest traffic increase in Singaraja and Denpasar as the provincial capitals. Likewise, since Bali was reopened to domestic tourists in early August 2021, data service traffic on XL Axiata's 4G network has also seen an increase and continues to increase until now.

 

For this reason, in a number of the most popular tourist areas in Bali, XL Axiata also specifically ensures the quality of the data network. XL Axiata has set up a 4G network in Sanur as many as 22 BTS, Kuta 13 BTS, Nusa Dua 39 BTS, Ubud 13 BTS, Kintamani 12 BTS, Seminyak 18 BTS, Jumbaran 19 BTS, Canggu 15 BTS, and Nusa Penida 9 BTS. To support the needs of Denpasar as the largest and busiest city, XL Axiata operates 331 BTS. Meanwhile, for Ngurah Rai International Airport, XL Axiata is ready with 11 BTS 4G, Tanjung Benoa Harbor 4 BTS 4G, and Gilimanuk Ferry Port 3 BTS 4G.

 

All tourist villages popular as tourist destinations have also been served by XL Axiata's 4G network, including Penglipuran Village in Kubu (Bangli Regency), Tigawasa Village in Banjar District (Buleleng Regency), Sidatapa Village in Banjar District (Buleleng Regency), Cempaga Village in Banjar District (Buleleng Regency), and Tenganan Village in Manggis District (Karangasem Regency). With the available capacity and infrastructure, XL Axiata is optimistic that it will be able to provide maximum telecommunication and data services in these tourist areas.

Introduction to 5G Network in Denpasar

 

Considering the strategic value of Bali as a super-priority tourist destination and a world-class meeting location, XL Axiata also considers Bali as one of the priority locations for the implementation of the 5G network. For this reason, XL Axiata also began to introduce 5G networks and services to residents of the Island of the Gods on Wednesday (13/10). Present to open this educational event were Director of Technology & Chief Technology Officer of XL Axiata, I Gede Darmayusa, Director & Chief Commercial Officer of XL Axiata, David Arcelus Oses, and Group Head of XL Axiata for East Region, Dodik Ariyanto.

 

I Gede Darmayusa said, "This event is one of the stages of XL Axiata's preparation to roll out 5G services commercially and massively later. Together with other important cities, Bali is one of the areas that will be a priority for implementing XL Axiata's 5G network because Bali is one of Indonesia's storefronts. Every year, millions of domestic and foreign tourists come to Bali; they will assess the convenience of Bali, among others, from the availability of data and internet services available. That's where we can help support the revival of Bali tourism."

 

At the demo location, customers who already have a smartphone that supports 5G XL Axiata can try XL Axiata's 5G service directly from the customer's handset; For other customers who do not have 5G supporting devices, they can experience XL Axiata 5G through various 5G service demos that are displayed, as well as education related to 5G networks from XL Axiata customer care representatives. For the demo at XL Center Sunset Road at Sunset Road No. 818, Kuta, Badung Regency, Bali, customers can try the cloud gaming demo, 4K video streaming, 360-degree camera for live video streaming, and also VR glass.

 

Previously, the Ministry of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia (Kominfo) stated that XL Axiata had passed the Operational Feasibility Test (ULO) to deploy 5G networks in Indonesia. The 5G ULO pass is stated in the Operational Eligibility Certificate (SKLO) received by XL Axiata management. Besides Medan, Banjarmasin and Makassar, since August 18, 2021, XL Axiata 5G demos are also available in Jakarta, Depok, Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya. XL Axiata 5G service is available at XL Center in these cities.

 

XL Axiata will accelerate the preparation of the required ecosystem, including fiber networks and network modernization; encourage the government to accelerate the provision of special spectrum for 5G; collaborate with device providers in providing 5G smartphone devices to be easily obtained by customers and the public; collaborate with industry players and educational institutions to develop use cases, provide human resources, and provide education to increase public understanding of the benefits of technology and 5G networks to support daily life.

 

Currently, XL Axiata has more than 56 million subscribers, supported by more than 156 thousand BTS, including more than 65 thousand 4G BTS. XL Axiata's 4G LTE network also continues to be expanded, and currently, it has reached around 458 cities/regencies in various regions in Indonesia. XL Axiata also continues to invest in fiber networks, transmission, backhaul, network modernization, and various other network upgrades to improve stability, network capacity, and service quality in line with the continued increase in data service traffic.
