Jakarta, 30 May 2022. On June 4, 2022, PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) will soon present 5G services at the Formula E car racing event in Jakarta. Various preparations are being made in the field to ensure that this super-fast data and internet connectivity is available to assist the racing event. XL Axiata's 5G services will be accessible at a number of points around the Formula E Circuit and are completely free of charge.

XL Axiata has secured cooperation from the Ministry of Communications and Informatics of the Republic of Indonesia, including the use of the 3.5GHz frequency band, in order to give consumers with a real 5G mobile experience, particularly for visitors to the Formula E Circuit.  A number of 5G access points will be prepared around the circuit that will cover a number of areas where race spectators, journalists and broadcasters, support teams, and Formula E event work units gather.

XL Axiata Director & Chief Technology Officer, I Gede Darmayusa said, "Adopting all the preparations we made in the previous Mandalika MotoGP race, at the Formula E car racing event in Jakarta this time, we will also conduct a series of 5G XL Axiata trials with a spectrum 3.5GHz to bring you the best service. We believe that the XL Axiata 5G network is ready to support the implementation of Formula E car racing, as well as re-introducing this super-fast data and internet access service to the public, including foreign guests attending this international event."

In order to be able to enjoy XL Axiata's 5G Experience service, visitors must ensure that the smartphone they use supports the fifth generation cellular network in the 3.5 GHz frequency band, and that their SIM card has a uSIM. Through this 5G deployment, visitors will be able to experience a real 5G experience, which can provide several advantages over 4G networks, including higher data rates, lower latency, and more connection density than 4G.

Improved network around the Formula E Circuit

In addition to deploying a 5G network, XL Axiata is also working to improve the quality of the 4G network in the area around the Formula E Circuit. On the 4G network, XL Axiata has prepared additional network capacity and coverage at several points where traffic is predicted to increase, including the addition of 3 Mobile BTS (MBTS) at several points around the event location. XL Axiata assures that the 4G network is ready to support smooth communication activities particularly data services communication for visitors, the community, and related work units in the area.

"In anticipation of a spike in traffic during racing days, we've increased the capacity of our network surrounding Ancol by 2-3 times. With the high enthusiasm of the public as well as the publication and news about Formula E which is quite extensive and intensive so far, Ancol visitors can boom and will certainly encourage an increase in traffic. We anticipate all possibilities that could happen so that there are no major roadblocks on D day and the race can run well," I Gede explained.

In North Jakarta, the area where the Formula E event is held, XL Axiata has more than 1,600 BTS, with nearly 1,000 of them 4G BTS. Meanwhile, for the entire DKI Jakarta area, XL Axiata operates more than 9,700 BTS, including more than 5,700 4G BTS.
