Through the Digital Islamic Boarding School program, XL Axiata also provides several digital solutions that can be utilized by Islamic boarding school administrators throughout Indonesia. Utilizing IoT solutions is one of the implementations that can be used to increase productivity in Islamic boarding schools, including in economic and entrepreneurial activities.

Sidoarjo, 21 December 2023.  PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) continues to expand the application of digital Internet of Things (IoT) solutions among Islamic boarding schools (ponpes). After previously in Pamekasan, this time XL Axiata implemented this solution at the Madrasatul Quran At Tauhid Islamic Boarding School, Sidoarjo, East Java. XL Axiata teaches students to use IoT for maggot cultivation and social entrepreneurship together with partners of the Benihbaik Foundation, XL Axiata inaugurated this digital facility in Sidoarjo, on Thursday (21/12).

XL Axiata East Region Regional Group Head, Dodik Ariyanto said, "Through the Digital Islamic Boarding School program, XL Axiata also provides several digital solutions that can be utilized by friends who manage Islamic boarding schools throughout Indonesia. Utilizing IoT solutions is one of the implementations that can be used to increase productivity in Islamic boarding schools, including in economic and entrepreneurial activities. "We at XL Axiata are very happy to help Islamic boarding school friends who are really serious about implementing IoT digital solutions for productive purposes, both to improve the quality of teaching and learning, as well as to be economically productive."

Meanwhile, Madrasatul Quran At Tauhid Islamic Boarding School, Sidoarjo, said that the application of IoT in its environment is part of an effort to increase the ability to use digital technology and social entrepreneurship among Islamic boarding schools (ponpes). According to the boarding school administrator, KH.Ahmad Hafidz Ayatulloh, M.HI, his party hopes that XL Axiata's training and support can also have a positive impact on economic empowerment among Islamic boarding schools (ponpes).

Dodik added that this IoT solution for maggot cultivation was born from the results of the IoT incubation program at XL Axiata's XCamp Laboratory. In this place, several IoT solutions were selected that were suitable and could be applied in the Islamic boarding school environment, especially those that could support economic empowerment efforts.

Technically, this solution itself has several environmental monitoring features and temperature or humidity control at the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) breeding location. BSF is a type of fly whose eggs then become maggot larvae.

To be able to produce maggots that can be used as high-quality animal feed, optimal temperature and humidity are needed, in the range of 20-25 degrees Celsius. Apart from that, ideal humidity is also needed in raising maggots, namely 50-70%. Using IoT solutions will help make it easier to measure the best temperature and humidity in real-time.

Apart from increasing productivity, the benefit of using IoT solutions is mainly to reduce operational costs, as a data source for Big Data and Artificial Intelligence purposes. Apart from that, this technology can also make planning, projections, and maintenance easier.

The economic value that can be generated from maggot cultivation is quite high. Maggots are needed for livestock feed such as poultry and catfish. Maggots can be high-quality animal feed that can accelerate the growth of livestock. Thus, maggot cultivation can also encourage community economic empowerment.

Cultivating maggots is quite easy because the food comes from household waste or organic waste which is easy to obtain. Therefore, maggot cultivation also supports organic waste processing and empowerment programs in Islamic boarding schools and is expected to contribute to reducing Green House Gas (GHG) emissions.

IoT solutions for maggot cultivation have also been implemented at Miftahul Ulum Sekar Anyar Islamic Boarding School, Pamekasan, Madura, Hidayatulloh Islamic Boarding School, Depok, West Java, Al Idrisiyah Islamic Boarding School, Tasikmalaya, West Java, KH Mas Mansur Madrasah Boarding School (MBS), Brebes, Central Java.

To utilize digital technology and communication needs, XL Axiata also provides network services around the Islamic boarding school area by installing MBTS. With the MBTS installed in the Islamic boarding school area, it is hoped that the positive impact can also be felt by the surrounding community in utilizing digital technology in their daily lives.
