Medan, 26 January 2023. To celebrate World Cancer Day, PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) held a blood donation event as a routine activity. In the activity held at Grha XL Medan, Thursday (26/1), XL Axiata collaborated with the journalist community in Medan, which also participated as donors. The proceeds from this social action will then be channelled to the Children's Oncology Foundation of Medan (YOAM) to be distributed to children with cancer in need.

Group Head of XL Axiata West Region, Desy Sari Dewi, said, "This blood donation activity has become a routine for XL Axiata employees in Medan and the general public. Besides the benefits that have been felt very well, blood donation has also become a lifestyle. We have carried out blood donation regularly every three months since 2012 in Medan. We usually organize this activity together with the Children's Oncology Foundation of Medan (YOAM) and the journalist community in Medan. Although it is simple, it can help children with cancer who need blood at any time. Hopefully, it will be beneficial for those who receive it."

Desy added that in today's blood donation, a total of 60 bags of blood were collected from 65 people who registered. The blood collected will be donated directly to the Children's Oncology Foundation of Medan (YOAM) for further distribution to children with cancer.

This activity is in collaboration with Majelis Taklim XL Axiata (MTXL), The Indonesian Photojournalist Association (PFI) of Medan, the Indonesian Women Journalists Forum (FJPI) of North Sumatra, Health Journalists Forum (Forwakes) of North Sumatra, Children's Oncology Foundation of Medan (YOAM), and RSUP H. Adam Malik of Medan.

"This activity has been routinely carried out by YOAM and XL Axiata. Blood donation benefits those in need, and the most common blood types collected are B and O, with AB being the rarest. But every activity always finds donors with the AB blood type. It is one form of our program to help those in the community who need blood. Hopefully, this can always be a sustainable program. The next blood donation schedule will be April 26, 2023," Chairperson of the Medan Children's Oncology Foundation (YOAM), Atika Rahmi, explained.

Blood donation has numerous benefits for donors. Among the benefits of blood donation are lowering the risk of developing heart and blood vessel diseases, lowering the risk of cancer, helping to lose weight, detecting serious diseases, and helping to be psychologically healthier.
