XL Axiata Data Traffic Increased 37% During Eid Holiday 2023

Judging from the region, the increase in service traffic during the Idul Fitri holiday compared to the previous normal day's traffic, respectively occurred in Central Java with an increase of 27%, West Java of 19%, and East Java of 17%. Outside Java, service usage traffic in the North Sumatra region on average increased by 12%, South Sumatra by 15%, Kalimantan by 10%, Sulawesi by 6%, and Bali-NTB-NTT by 10%.

Jakarta, 30 April 2023. PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) recorded an increase in data usage traffic during the Eid al-Fitr 1444 H holiday period, between 19 April - 27 April 2023. Data from the Customer Experience & Service Operation Center located at XL Axiata Tower, Jakarta, shows there was an increase in data service traffic of more than 37% compared to the previous year's Eid period, and around 17% compared to normal days before Ramadan. The increase in traffic is inseparable from the enthusiasm of the people to travel for the exodus and take vacations like the previous years before the pandemic.

 

Director & Chief Technology Officer of XL Axiata, I Gede Darmayusa said, "We at XL Axiata are grateful to be able to provide maximum service to customers during this joyful Eid holiday. We have made special preparations in advance to provide the best service for this Eid holiday. During this holiday period, there was a significant increase in data traffic, as well as data on people moving from one area to another which was so dynamic. Access to video streaming services through social media is also quite high, which shows the enthusiasm of the people to share the joy.”

 

Gede added that the pattern of using various types of data services by XL Axiata customers during the Eid holidays can illustrate how optimally Indonesians are in utilizing digital facilities for various daily needs. During the Eid Holiday period, service traffic was dominated by file access (Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram File Access) reaching 36%, Instant Messaging for 33%, Games for 11%, and Streaming reaching 10%, and other services reaching 9%. Video streaming services also experienced an increase, such as Netflix reaching 36%, Disney Hotstar at 22%, TikTok at 12%, and YouTube increasing 5%.

 

For the Instant Messenger service, traffic to the WhatsApp service use increased by 43%. Meanwhile, on Social Network services, Instagram traffic increased by 55%, Twitter by 15%, and Meta (Facebook) by 4%. Map services or route indicators such as Apple Map, Google Map, and Waze are quite widely accessed by people who travel, which is an increase of around 9-75% compared to normal days.

Meanwhile, seen from the city/regency area, nationally, the three cities/regencies with the highest increase in traffic were Kebumen Regency, Central Java, which increased by 62%, Pandeglang Regency, West Java, by 49%, and Pemalang Regency, Central Java, by 48%.

 

"For service traffic in Jabodetabek, service traffic during the Eid holiday is seen to have fallen by 6% compared to normal days. The traffic data for Jabodetabek also corresponds to customer movement data during the Eid holiday period. XL Axiata's monitoring data records the rate of customers movement from the Jabodetabek area to other provinces, which is around 35%," said Gede

 

Overall, in order to ensure network readiness to meet customer needs during this year's Eid holiday, XL Axiata previously increased network capacity by up to 2x compared to normal days. Network control procedures are still implemented as much as possible. XL Axiata deployed 160 units of mobile BTS to strengthen network quality in locations where it is needed.
