Adopts Google Cloud for hybrid-cloud; launches Google Cloud Partner Interconnect Service to connect Indonesian businesses to Google’s global network infrastructure

JAKARTA, INDONESIA, 9 JUNE 2020 – PT XL Axiata Tbk and Google Cloud today announced two strategic partnership initiatives to further the telecommunications leader’s digital transformation journey as well as serve the evolving needs of millions of companies across Indonesia’s rapidly digitizing economy.

Advancing XL Axiata’s hybrid-cloud strategy with Anthos With a target to move 70% of workloads to the cloud within the next three years, XL Axiata has adopted Anthos‒Google Cloud’s modern application management platform, to automate, manage and scale workloads across its hybrid- and multi-cloud environments in a secure, consistent manner. Google Cloud Anthos enables enterprises to build and manage Kubernetes-based applications, without modification, whether they are on existing on-premises data centers, Google Cloud or  other clouds.

By migrating its microservices platform to Google Cloud and bringing Anthos Google  Kubernetes Engine (GKE) to its on-premises data centers, XL Axiata can extend its cloud capabilities across its on-premises and cloud-based resources in a cost effective manner.

XL Axiata also has plans to implement Google Cloud’s scalable data analytics platform to enhance customer experiences through data- and AI-driven technologies. The launch of Google Cloud’s GCP region in Jakarta will enable XL Axiata to store, process and analyze data in real time locally to better serve its new and existing customers in Indonesia.

“XL Axiata is committed to the modernization of our infrastructure to get more business agility and increase application deployment velocity. Anthos was a natural fit as it lets us adopt containers while letting Google, a leader in Kubernetes, manage our container infrastructure for us,” said Yessie D Yosetya, Chief Information and Digital Officer of XL Axiata.

Connectivity for Indonesian businesses with Interconnect Partner Services The two organizations also announced today that XL Axiata has also become a Google Cloud Interconnect Partner. This sees both organizations bringing the best of high-speed connectivity,  cloud services and digital growth opportunities to customers in Indonesia who can reliably transfer data between XL Axiata’s five data centers and Google’s global network.

As more businesses in Indonesia pursue a cloud strategy to achieve unparalleled reliability, resilience and data protection, direct connections like those from Partner Interconnect gives them the assurance of the best possible performance. Through Partner Interconnect, traffic between on-site networks and Google Cloud does not use the public Internet. Instead, it travels via a direct route on XL Axiata’s private network. This means fewer points of failure where traffic might usually get dropped or disrupted and offers the added benefit of increased security and management functionality.

“Service providers worldwide are embarking on transformation journeys centered on the cloud in order to drive new services, revenue opportunities and experiences. With Anthos, we’re providing a consistent platform for XL Axiata to deploy workloads both on-premises and in the cloud so they can accelerate their own digital transformation. Our collaboration around Partner Interconnect will also enable companies of all sizes in Indonesia to gain access to high speed connectivity to create a whole new world of experiences for their customers. This is indeed a win-win collaboration with XL Axiata,” said Megawaty Khie, Country Director of Google Cloud in Indonesia.
