Enhancing Service Quality Across Sulawesi: XL Axiata Launches Gorontalo – Palu Backbone Network

The 1,150 km Gorontalo - Palu fiber optic backbone network will boost Sulawesi's network infrastructure, aiding expansion into new areas and enhancing existing network quality. It's crucial for XL Axiata to collaborate with the government in providing quality internet services to remote regions.

GORONTALO, MARCH 30, 2024. PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) inaugurated the operation of the Gorontalo – Palu fiber optic backbone network to serve the surge in cellular service traffic across Sulawesi and support home internet services. The construction of this backbone network is a collaboration between XL Axiata and PT Alita Praya Mitra. I Gede Darmayusa, Director & Chief Technology Officer (CTO) XL Axiata, and Teguh Prasetya , President Director of PT Alita Praya Mitra, visited the backbone infrastructure location in Isimu Raya Village, Tibawa District, Gorontalo Regency on Wednesday (27/3).

 

Construction of the Gorontalo - Palu backbone network, linking two provinces in Sulawesi, commenced in 2023. This network offers enhanced protection to meet capacity demands and ensure reliability for the people of Sulawesi.

 

I Gede Darmayusa emphasized, "Equal internet access is crucial for supporting inclusion programs in Indonesia. In today's digital age, it's urgent to build infrastructure for digital services in remote areas to maximize service quality for communities. XL Axiata is dedicated to offering top-notch telecommunications services, including a 1,150 km cross-provincial backbone network from Gorontalo Regency to Palu in Central Sulawesi.”

 

Gede mentioned that the Gorontalo - Palu fiber optic network backbone will enhance Sulawesi's network infrastructure, aiding expansion into new areas and improving the quality of existing networks. This fiber optic backbone will also support XL Axiata's efforts to promote Fixed Broadband (FBB) and Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) services  and meet corporate market needs in Sulawesi with better network quality. It aligns with the company's focus on expanding convergence service business in various regions in Indonesia and assisting the government in ensuring equal access to fast internet services.

 

Teguh Prasetya stated, "In order to support the progress of digital transformation through the development of telecommunications infrastructure in Indonesia, Alita continues to assist cellular operators in enhancing the quality of reliable backbone networks, including the construction and activation of the Gorontalo - Palu route fiber optic route, spanning 1,150 km for XL Axiata."

 

Teguh Prasetya emphasized that Alita believes that quality telecommunications infrastructure is essential to support the acceleration of digital transformation, economic growth, and technological advancement in Indonesia. By continuously supporting the development of reliable backbone networks, Alita Praya Mitra aims to enhance telecommunications network connectivity in various regions, including in Gorontalo and Palu.

With a large capacity, stable and reliable backbone network, it aims to enhance user experience in using telecommunications services, offering high-speed and reliable internet access. Currently, XL Axiata operates a backbone network in Sulawesi spanning over 10,000 km, supporting more than 9,800 BTS, including 6,400 4G BTS, and serving over 2.4 million customers. Meanwhile, across Indonesia, XL Axiata has a total backbone network exceeding 159,000 km.
