Collaborating for Real Change at the NTB Women Correctional Facility, SheInspire: An Initiative by XLSMART and the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection to Uplift Women

Mataram, July 26, 2025 – PT XLSMART Telecom Sejahtera Tbk (XLSMART), through its Sisternet women empowerment initiative, in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA), officially concluded the 2025 SheInspire Sinergi Berdaya: Bersinar Bangkit Bersama program at the Class III Women's Correctional Facility in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). This closing ceremony marked the conclusion of an intense training program that covered ten women's correctional facilities in Indonesia.

 

The event, held on Friday (July 24) at the Class III Women's Correctional Facility in Mataram, was attended by the Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, Arifah Fauzi; Director & Chief People Officer of XLSMART, Jeremiah Ratadhi; Group Head of Corporate Communications & Sustainability at XLSMART, Reza Z. Mirza; XLSMART Regional Group Head for East Region, Dodik Ariyanto; and the Head of the Class III Women's Correctional Facility Mataram, Udur Martionna.

 

The Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection of the Republic of Indonesia, Arifah Fauzi, stated, “I express my appreciation and thanks to XL SMART for its flagship program Sisternet SheInspire, which has reached 500 women in ten pilot locations, including the Class III Women's Correctional Facility in Mataram as the last training place. This program has also successfully documented the aspirations and hopes of inmates to become empowered again upon returning to society. This highlights the need of long-term efforts, in which continual assistance is required to ensure that the skills developed do not cease inside the facility but continue to develop into independent and productive sources of income."

Director & Chief People Officer XLSMART, Jeremiah Ratadhi, stated “The closing of this program is the beginning of a new chapter in assisting female inmates after rehabilitation. XLSMART believes that every woman has the opportunity for growth and be empowered, especially those undergoing correctional programs. SheInspire is beyond just training, it's an empowerment movement. With the support of technology and the digital ecosystem, we seek to provide the greatest amount of access possible so that those can return to society with new skills, mindsets, and possibilities."

Head of the Class III Women’s Correctional Facility Mataram, NTB, Udur Martionna, also emphasized the benefits of this program from a rehabilitation perspective. "SheInspire has established meaningful rehabilitation spaces that address the psychological needs of inmates. We've seen how this training restores confidence, enthusiasm, and a willingness to participate positively once their rehabilitation phase is over."

 

The SheInspire program aims to assist female inmates achieve economic empowerment through entrepreneurship skills training, financial and digital literacy, and psychosocial support, thereby accelerating the process of social reintegration after release. The training program is structured around four measurable primary objectives. First, to strengthen the entrepreneurial capacity of former inmates through intensive training that encourages independence in building businesses. Second, through inspirational seminars and motivational sessions, they will gain self-confidence and be prepared to fully engage in society and the business world. Third, participants will have access to broader social networks by connecting with mentors, business communities, and industry players. Fourth, provide continued moral and social assistance to participants as they encounter various post-release challenges.

 

At the NTB Women’s Correctional Facility, participants received hard skills training such as marble cake making and hand-painted scarf crafts, as well as soft skills such as household financial management and strategies for starting micro-enterprises.

 

Since its launch in October 2024, SheInspire has reached more than 500 female inmates in 10 women’s correctional facilities, including Tangerang I & II, Lampung, Malang, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Medan, Makassar, Denpasar, and NTB. Based on evaluation:

 

  • 98% of participants felt more capable in managing emotions,
  • 100% of participants gained confidence in communication.
  • During the program, sales at inmate owned businesses increased by 5%.

Reza Z. Mirza, Group Head of Corporate Communications & Sustainability at XLSMART, added that after the 2025 training program concludes, SheInspire will shift into the mentoring phase and provide additional assistance to inmates whose sentence period has ended, including business idea incubation, product promotional photo sessions, advanced financial literacy training, and digital marketing access in collaboration with the Correctional Centre. XLSMART and KemenPPPA are also committed to expanding the program's reach to women's correctional facilities across Indonesia by the end of 2026, with more thematic sessions, cross-sector collaboration, and mentorship for program alumni to ensure their independence and long-term empowerment.

 

It is hoped that the SheInspire program in NTB will not only provide new skills to the participants but also instill determination and confidence to rebuild a better and more hopeful future.
