Share

Jakarta, March 29th 2021. PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) distributes smartphone donations and free data packages specifically for underprivileged students in several cities in Indonesia. This program aims to support the implementation of distance learning (PJJ) which is still ongoing today. The first donation handover of this program was made in Jakarta in January 2021 by the Chief Of Corporate Affairs Officer of XL Axiata, Marwan O. Baasir. Furthermore, the smartphone donation and free data package were distributed simultaneously in four cities, namely Medan, Jakarta, Bandung and Surabaya on Friday (26/3).

Chief of Corporate Affairs Officer of XL Axiata, Marwan O Baasir said that XL Axiata management really understands the problems felt by some people, related to the ability to have smartphones and data quotas so that their children can take part in distance learning (PJJ). Currently, a total of 500 donation packages containing smartphones and data quotas have been prepared to be distributed to several cities, namely 71 students in Surabaya, 166 students in Jakarta, 61 students in Bandung, and 202 students in Medan.

"With this assistance, we hope that the burden on the parents of students, who are economically disadvantaged, can be lighter. So, the problem for some of our people to be able to follow PJJ is not only related to data quota, but also not being able to own a smartphone. As cheap as possible, it must also cost hundreds of thousands of rupiah. For the underprivileged people, it is no longer affordable. Therefore, together with our friends at Benih Baik Foundation, we are looking for solutions to help underprivileged students to have smartphones for PJJ,” continued Marwan.

The mechanism for the distribution of the smartphone and free data quota package to students will be assisted and carried out by the BenihBaik.com Foundation and the Baitul Maal Muamalat Foundation. This foundation has data on students who are entitled to donations, namely underprivileged students, in each city. Distribution will be carried out starting March 26th , 2021. The beneficiary students are currently registered as students in a number of public and private schools.

The smartphone given has the ability to access the data services needed to follow PJJ, including cameras. All smartphones are in new condition. Meanwhile, the internet card provided is an AXIS card with a quota of up to 37 GB after being activated and registered. This quota is outside of the quota subsidies for students from the Ministry of Education and Culture.

"I am Adjie Mandala Putra, studying at SDN Malaka Jaya 08 Pagi grade 6, to thank you for the assistance provided with smartphones, sim cards and internet packages. God’s willing, this assistance really helped me to study online from home. Thank you to XL Axiata, Benihbaik.com and BMM, I hope you will always be given a blessed fortune, all of the business is smooth, and always be given health. Aamiin yaa Robbal Aalamiin.”

The data quota received by these students can be used to access a number of applications most often used by teachers to send course materials or assignments to students, namely the application of Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, Google Hangout, Google Classroom, and WhatsApp. In addition, this data quota can also be used to open applications and websites that provide additional material for study references, namely Udemy, Ruang Guru, Zenius and others.
