Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 Evacuation XL Axiata Ensures Excellent Network in Thousand Islands

Jakarta, January 14, 2021, XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) ensures the network quality to meet the communication needs for the evacuation team which is still working hard to deal with the accident of the Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 aircraft in the waters of the Thousand Islands. The provision of this telecommunication network is in coordination with Basarnas, Bakamla and related parties. XL Axiata has deployed the team in the field to strengthen the network at several points, including signals that can be reached in the waters of the evacuation site.

 

Chief of Corporate Affairs of XL Axiata, Marwan O. Baasir said that, “We, the big family of XL Axiata, would like to express our condolences for the tragedy of Sriwijaya aircraft SJ-182. As the form of our support to all the parties who continue to work hard in the evacuation, we also ensure the quality of XL Axiata network at the site in order to be able to be used optimally during this process. In addition, we also facilitate other communication facilities such as free public phone, as well as starter pack for those in need.”

 

Marwan added that strengthening network needs to be done in addition to being an anticipatory step, also due to the significant increase in traffic at several sites that are the coordination center for the evacuation team. For example, the traffic increase was recorded on BTS XL Axiata located in Lancang Besar Island, where since Saturday (9/1) it has increased by 20% and an increase in cellular service users by 55%. It is possible that the traffic and users of XL Axiata services will continue to increase while the evacuation process is still ongoing.

 

Since the start of the evacuation process by the related team, XL Axiata immediately deployed the team to strengthen and increase the network capacity in each BTS especially those covering the locations of coordination center such as the Basarnas Post in Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) 2 of Tanjung Priok Port, Crisis Center Post in Soekarno Hatta Airport and Supadio Airport Pontianak, Kramat Jati Police Hospital, as well as coordination posts at Tanjung Pasir, Tanjung Kait, Lancang Island, Laki Island, and other islands around the crash point of the aircraft.

 

In addition to ensure the network quality, XL Axiata also established the facility of Free Public Phone (TUG) at Basarnas Post in JICT 2, Tanjung Priok which can be used by the entire team, both the evacuation main team, victims’ families, and also included the media crews on duty at the location. Not only that, XL Axiata also provided the free starter packs which contain of internet and telephone quota in order to be used by the evacuation team so that it can facilitate them to communicate and coordinate during this social humanitarian task.
