Pontianak, 22 October 2021, PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) continues to support the government's vision in accelerating and developing telecommunication and data network infrastructure throughout Indonesia. Especially in West Kalimantan, within the past year, XL Axiata has intensively built a 4G network, in the form of more than 260 4G BTS, to remote rural areas that were previously unreachable. This initiative is part of the implementation of XL Axiata's commitment at the age of 25 to Build a Digital Indonesia.
Group Head of XL Axiata for the Jabodetabek & Kalimantan Region who also oversees the West Kalimantan area, Rd. Sofia Purbayanti, said, “Data traffic throughout West Kalimantan has increased by 215% in the last two years. Therefore, we must continue to build a 4G network, both to improve the quality of service, as well as to expand to areas that are new and have great potential. Along with network development, we also continue to fiberize the network to increase capacity, so that customer convenience will also increase.”
According to Sofia, currently, XL Axiata's 4G network throughout West Kalimantan Province has reached 75% of the existing districts or 129 districts, covering a total of 901 subdistricts/villages, with more than 418 thousand subscribers. To support services throughout the province of West Kalimantan, XL Axiata operates more than 1,000 4G BTS.
Sofia added that the existence of the 4G network in the West Kalimantan region is also an implementation of XL Axiata's commitment to contribute to increasing digital literacy for people who live in remote rural areas. The availability of a quality internet network and increasing digital literacy will encourage productivity and help people adapt to various means of the digital economy.
Throughout West Kalimantan, XL Axiata has the most 4G BTS in Pontianak City, which is 200 4G BTS. Then followed by the Kubu Raya Regency area, with more than 130 4G BTS. Next, Sambas Regency has more than 130 4G BTS. Meanwhile, the Sintang Regency area has around 100 4G BTS, Sanggau Regency around 90 4G BTS, and Singkawang City around 80 4G BTS.
In addition to focusing on building 4G networks, XL Axiata also strengthens data services by expanding the construction of fiber optic or fiberization networks whose paths extend to BTS in remote areas of West Kalimantan. The 4G network that will be connected to fiber optic networks throughout West Kalimantan will continue to grow considering the need to improve the quality of data services along with a significant increase in data traffic. XL Axiata hopes that connecting each BTS with fiber optic cable can further improve network quality and of course will automatically provide more convenience to data service users.
Meanwhile, to support government programs in providing services and 4G networks in the 3T (frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped) areas, especially in the West Kalimantan region, since 2017 XL Axiata has operated the network through the Universal Service Obligation (USO) scheme coordinated by Telecommunication and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI).
To date, there are 57 4G USO BTS in West Kalimantan spread across nine regencies, namely in Bengkayang, Ketapang, Landak, North Kayong, Sambas, Kapuas Hulu, Melawi, Sanggau, Sekadau Regencies, and the most in Sintang Regency with 22 4G USO BTS.
Wide Selection of XL Axiata Products
In addition to building a 4G network, XL Axiata has also prepared a number of product options that can be utilized by people in West Kalimantan Province to support their productivity.
Currently, there are product promos that can be used by customers and the public in West Kalimantan to access data services on the 4G network, namely the XL Xtra Combo Lite 40GB 30-day internet starter pack with a special price of IDR 58k and also the AXIS Bronet 2GB 60-day internet starter pack with prices starting from IDR 7k which is available at credit top-up shops spread across Pontianak City, Singkawang City, and Kubu Raya Regency. The promo is valid until the end of November 2021.
To ensure that people and customers can easily obtain XL Axiata products both XL and AXIS, currently, in West Kalimantan Province there are more than 2,700 credit top-up shops that provide XL Axiata products. These shops are spread out to districts and villages that are already covered by XL Axiata services. Through these distribution network stores, customers can also get information as well as submit complaints. The store manager then will forward the complaints to XL Axiata customer service.
